Comparisonitis is a vampire of your energy that you’ve probably battled on and off over the years both in and out of your business. It’s the whole reason there is that phrase of “keeping up with the jones’s” or should I say the 10 year running Keeping up with the Kardashians- society has conditioned you to think that comparisonitis is just part of life and deal with it.
Instead of being conditioned into a life of comparisonitis, how about you think about it for a moment. If it is not harnessed comparisonitis will suck the life force out of you and your business…it's the self sabotage no one talks about.
What if there was a way you could avoid comparisonitis for good and proper.
KNOW THY SELF AND AVOID COMPARISONITIS
Take a moment to close your eyes and revert back to that time before the pressures of life, I don’t care if you have to go back to when you were 4 years old but it is important to think of the time where you last felt pressured, but felt loved, confident and reassured of your direction.
You were loved then and you are loved now. We each have been put on this earth for a purpose and while that purpose might not be clear to you right now, one thing I know for sure is that it was not to be miserable and thinking you had to change who you were and be more like someone else.
I believe we all hold a secret aresnal of power weapons in our personality that attract our clients to us as well as repel the clients we don't want - I'm a Maestro...what this means is.. I am strong, confident in theory and well aligned to be living in purpose. It was almost once I found out more about my personality types it gave me the accountability to own exactly who I was and be proud of it. Want to know what your type is - take my free quiz here
IS IT REALLY TRUE
I adore asking this question to my clients when we unravel the comparisonitis conversation and in truth its generally my response to any form of gossip as well.
Is it really true?
You might be basking in all of your beliefs and thoughts on an image or a marketing program that rolls out an idea or an image which is very different from the real life.
I can share from experience here. When I first began coaching I very rarely shared images on social media that portrayed where I lived (on an island in the Barrier Reef) because I thought people would want to see me in more urban locations (the IT Girl walking down the urban street, drinking coffee talking to clients)… because that’s what all the other coaches are doing…Man was I pissed off with myself for hiding me when I found out these beliefs were purely held up by marketing and its glorious imagery.
Is this type of thinking keeping your in comparisonitits and holding you back?
I’LL NEVER MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS THEM
Refer back to that point above but another question to ask yourself here is - where are they at in their business journey. Most people you are following and comparing yourself to I can guarantee this isn’t their first business and if it is they certainly didn’t pitch up overnight.
Business is a long game and please please do not start thinking that you will never be as successful as a person who is and has been doing it for 10 years longer than you!
HOW DO YOU REALLY AVOID COMPARISONITIS THEN?
The antidote to comparisonitis is to fill yourself with purpose and confidence. You will never get distracted by comparisonitis if you are filled with purpose.
- Remember your why
Why did you start your business? What did you want to achieve? - What is holding you back from achieving? How can you release that?
- What practices can you put in place to maintain your energy? Unfollow/meditation/journal?
I love to think about life and business as a bit of a game or movie I have the starring role in, I’m not a co-star. This movie is about me and sometimes just like any movie there are sub-plots, villains, big problems but at the end of the movie the heroin always comes out on top.
It’s up to you to craft and create your movie filled with purpose so the mean girls or villains cant beat you from achieving your happy ending.
